ARELLANO tries to move a step closer to a three-peat, while Perpetual Help seeks to continue its giant-killing ways as the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball finals gets under way on Friday at the Arena in San Juan.
Lady Chiefs and Lady Altas play the first match of the best-of-three series at 4 p.m.
The Perpetual Help Junior Altas open hostilities at 12 p.m. when they face the Letran Squires in the opener of the juniors title series, while the Perpetual Altas begin their best-of-three finals against College of Saint Benilde Blazers at 2 p.m.
Coach Macky Cariño is hoping the Lady Altas can sustain the big run after eliminating twice-to-beat St. Benilde Lady Blazers in the semis.
“Mas lalo naming kakapitan, mas lalo naming titibayan kasi finals na 'yun eh,” said Cariño, who is banking on skipper Cindy Imbo, Jowie Albert Verzosa, Jhona Rosal, Bianca Tripoli and Hannah Suico.
“Ang hirap ng pinagdaanan namin. Kami praktisado kami, 'yung kalaban namin nagpahinga ng matagal so advantage on our side,” the Lady Altas coach added.
Arellano head coach Obet Javier, whose wards had one week lay-off after beating third placer San Beda in the Final Four last week, said that they cannot underestimate their foes.
“Talagang kailangan namin mag-trabaho. Kasi sabi ko nga, lahat naman ng school ngayon talagang contender,” Javier said. “So kailangan talagang mag-focus ng team ko ngayon saka dapat ibigay na nila yung one hundred percent nila at i-commit dapat nila yung sarili nila.”
Javier is pinning his hopes on last season’s Finals MVP Regine Arocha, Necole Ebuen, Princess Bello, Carla Donato and Rhea Ramirez.
