ARELLANO University eliminated University of Perpetual Help, 17-25, 25-16, 25-1, 25-13, on Wednesday, paving the way for College of St. Benilde and San Beda College to the stepladder semifinals of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Jovielyn Prado scored 15 points, while Regine Arocha and team captain Rialen Sante combined for 23 points as the Lady Chiefs improved their win-loss record to 8-1.
The Lady Chiefs will have a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.
St. Benilde and San Beda also advanced, avoiding a playoff round with Perpetual Help.
The Lady Blazers and Lionesses face off in the first phase of the stepladder semifinals starting on Friday.
“Kumbaga ang goal namin sa elimination nakuha na namin,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier.
“Pero itong darating na laban mas crucial na ito so mas dapat na hindi kami pwedeng magkamali rito,” he added. “Kaya sa practice namin bukas dapat mas mag concentrate kami.”
Jamela Suyat and Lourdes Clemente each had 12 points for Perpetual Help.
Meanwhile, St. Benilde secured a twice-to-beat advantage in the men’s semifinals with a 25-14, 24-26, 31-29, 25-20, win over the San Sebastian.
Isaah Arda scored 23 points and John Vic De Guzman scored 19 to lead CSB to an 8-1 record. SSC-R finished with a 3-6 win-loss card.
In the juniors division, SSC scored its only win in eight matches, beating CSB-La Salle Greenhills, 25-16, 24-26, 25-14, 25-19.
