LA Salle star Ara Galang is out of danger.
Galang was taken to the dugout at the end of the third set of Game Two of the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball finals on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena, raising fears of a repeat of the injury she suffered last season.
The graduating top hitter was accompanied by the team physical therapist out of the playing cou rt and returned to the game afterwards, although she couldn't save La Salle from suffering a five-set loss.
La Salle athletic director Nongnong Calanog later announced Galang is free from any major injury.
“It’s a minor thing, wala naman, our doctors took a look at her kanina so there’s nothing major,” said Calanog, who spoke on behalf of the team because coaches and players were prohibited from granting interviews after the 25-18, 28-26, 17-25, 16-25, 11-15 loss.
“So just to be sure, she’ll meet up with the doctor tomorrow pero as far as they’re concerned, it’s nothing serious so it’s good news for us,” added the La Salle official.
Calanog, however, declined to mention the particular part of Galang’s leg that hurt.
“I’m not sure,” he said. “I’d rather not comment, I have to check with the doctors kung ano talaga.”
Last year, Galang missed the Finals due to a major knee injury. The soft-spoken but hard-hitting spiker suffered ACL and MCL tears and big bone bruises after an awkward landing in their semifinal match against National University.
