LA Salle skipper Ara Galang did not attempt to hide her disappointment as the Lady Spikers fell at the hands of top rival Ateneo, saying the squad lacked determination and teamwork.
“It’s a team sport kailangan lahat gumagalaw kailangan lahat tumutulong, kailangan pa yung eagerness namin,” she said.
La Salle looked to have seized control with a fine third set for a 2-1 lead but Ateneo fought back to take the five-set win in two hours and five minutes in front of 18, 489 spectators on Sunday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
The two teams entered the match unbeaten, with the La Salle side looking to score a revenge of sort against the Ateneo squad that defeated them in last season’s title series.
Instead, La Salle found itself sitting in second spot with a 6-1 win-loss record as Ateneo completed a sweep of the first round of eliminations.
“Syempre disappointed talaga kasi andon na kami kailangan tinapos na namin pero kinulang na naman,” said Galang.
A quiet-type of a leader, Galang said she is also trying to change her style and be more vocal.
“I’m working on it naman tina-try ko ’yung best ko, tina-try kong makisama sa teammates ko, tina-try kong gawin ’yung responsibilidad ko sa court,” she said.
“Syempre as a leader kailangan maging vocal pero as in ginagawa ko naman na makausap silang lahat and ma-motivate sila,” she added.
