NEW La Salle skipper Ara Galang is proving to be a silent operator and although she is taking a far different approach than her predecessor, the results are proving to be the same.

The Lady Spikers are unbeaten in five matches this season, alone on top of the UAAP women’s volleyball standings, with Galang piling up a total of 105 points in 17 sets played.

Galang says she likes to let her game do the talking.

“Hindi ako masalitang tao kaya sa gawa na lang ako tutulong,” said Galang, leading the team in a way much different from the emotional and outspoken former team leader Aby Marano.

“Minsan pinagsasabihan ko naman sila, kinakausap ko naman sila pero hindi ako ’yung tipong vocal kaya sa gawa na lang ako tutulong,” she added.

With their soft-spoken leader showing the way, the former three-time champions have only dropped two sets this season, one each to Adamson, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-17, and Far Eastern University, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22.

Galang added she hopes to prove herself a true leader, but notes that she need not speak up loud to prove her point.

“Syemre ngayon ako ang una lagi. Kailangan ako ang mauuna lagi na tama ang gagawin, kailangan less error para ’wag sila ma-down,” said Galang.

“Kailangan ma-prove ko sa kanila na karapat dapat ako.”

After a long break, La Salle will get back in action immediately when the tournament resumes on January 4 as the Lady Spikers take on University of the East.
