ARA Galang would rather focus on getting back to full fitness before thinking about returning for another tour of duty with De La Salle.
The La Salle skipper said she is in no hurry to go back to action, adding all she is thinking about is recovering completely from the major knee injury she suffered during the Lady Spikers’ do-or-die game against National University in the stepladder phase of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Galang also wants to be psychologically and emotionally ready before deciding on a comeback.
“Honestly po, focus muna ako sa recovery ko,” Galang said shortly after the Lady Spikers' loss to repeat champion Ateneo on Saturday. “Hopefully, recovered na ako 100 percent physically, emotionally, and psychologically.
“Mahirap pero gusto ko ‘yung fully recovered na ako bago maglaro talaga.”
She is still a question mark for La Salle in Season 78 after suffering tears on her ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus in her left knee. The injury could force her out of action for six to eight months.
But Galang said she was overwhelmed by the support she gained from the entire volleyball community after seeing #PrayForAraGalang become a trending topic on Twitter worldwide minutes following her injury.
“Sobrang na-overwhelm ako dahil actually hindi ako naging aware na ganun pala karami ang sumusuporta hindi lang sa akin, pati sa team.
“Nakakataba ng puso na nandyan sila para sumuporta,” the La Salle skipper said.
As to her injury, Galang said there is no timetable yet on when surgery will take place.
“As of now, wala pa. Sana by next week, doon pa lang malalaman,” Galang said.
