DE La Salle volleyball star Ara Galang suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to her left knee during the Lady Spikers' win over National University in the UAAP women's volleyball stepladder playoffs, a team insider said.

Galang, the Lady Spikers' leading scorer and acknowledged leader, crumpled to the floor in obvious pain after landing awkwardly following a kill that brought La Salle within two points of wrapping up the match in the fourth set against the Lady Bulldogs.

The La Salle was carried out of the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in a stretcher and immediately brought by ambulance to the Makati Medical Center where the initial diagnosis is an ACL injury, according to an insider who asked not to be named.

Galang's MCL may have also suffered damage, the source added.

If the initial diagnosis is confirmed, Galang will miss the Lady Spikers' sixth successive trip to the finals opposite top-seeded rival Ateneo, which enjoys a thrice-to-beat edge after a sweep of the eliminations.

However, the insider said doctors will need more time to ascertain the true extent of the ACL injury.
