VOLLEYBALL is taking a backseat for Ara Galang.
The hard-hitting pride of Angeles, Pampanga, who won a UAAP women's volleyball championship for La Salle in her final year of eligibility, said she plans to focus on her studies in the coming months.
Galang, 21, added she hopes to end finish her studies in this academic year.
“Ngayon kasi, hindi ko pa sure kung lalaro pa ako. I mean, plan ko kasi baka mag-skip muna ako sa volleyball,” she told SPIN.ph on Tuesday during the PSA forum at Shakey’s Malate in Manila.
Galang, who’s taking up an Entrepreneurship course, said she wants to feel how it is to be a full-time student, even for just one term.
“May one term pa kasi ako, gusto ko tapusin muna. Gusto ko ma-experience na maging full-time student muna kasi mga 17 or 19 units pa ako kaya gutso ko na tapusin in one term,” she said.
That decision should mean rival leagues Shakey's V-League and the Philippine Super Liga will have to wait before seeing where the popular spiker will play next.
This early, a lot of teams are waiting to see if Galang will apply for the 2016 PSL rookie draft.
Unlike her La Salle teammates Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Dawn Macandili, Kim Dy and Mary Joy Baron, Galang has not yet played in the PSL.
Galang, though, isn't totally closing the door on the commercial leagues.
“Pero kung may opportunity na maglaro ako, kung masisingit ko, ok naman sa akin. Pero as of now, undecided pa ako if maglalaro pa ako,” she said.
