ALL the pent-up emotions Ara Galang had after sitting out last year's UAAP women's volleyball finals are set to come to the fore when La Salle takes on Ateneo renew their rivalry in the sport's biggest stage.
Galang missed out on last year's title series after suffering a horror knee injury at the Final Four stage, but has made up for lost time by taking a leading role in the Lady Spikers' run to the championship series.
Now the La Salle star is more motivated than ever to regain lost glory for the Taft-based school and end her college career on a high note.
“After last year, mas gigil ako lumaro sa finals ngayon,” she told SPIN.ph after their training on Friday morning at La Salle gym. “And super excited dahil isang factor na ‘yung ‘di ako nakalaro last year and last ko na rin ngayon.
“‘Yung na-miss kong chance last year, ibubuhos ko na ngayon and ‘yung gigil nandoon na rin. Mafi-feel ko na lang ‘yun pag nandoon na mismo sa game eh,” she added.
The 21-year old pride of Angeles, Pampanga is down to her last two or three matches in her collegiate career, but she's trying to be less emotional about the swan song.
But she draws motivation from the two losses La Salle suffered at the hands of Ateneo the past two seasons.
“Magiging motivation and hugot namin ‘yung mga nakuha sa amin in the past seasons,” she said.
Aside from Galang, Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo, Mika Esperanza and Carol Cerveza are also looking for a fitting end to their five-year stint with the Taft-based squad.
“Syempre ‘yun naman ‘yung goal namin, hindi lang ako, kaming lahat na seniors na mag-exit kami as champion and syempre goal ng buong team mag-champion,” said Galang.
“Kaya mas lalong nakaka-excite maglaro eh kasi ito na ‘to. Alam mong ‘di na ‘to mauulit, last chance mo na ‘to,” she added.
“Kailangan mabigay mo na ang best mo. Kailangan ‘di ka magsisisi after kasi kahit anong result basta binigay mo ang best mo and alam mong lumaban ka, achievement na ‘yun for you.”
