ARA Galang came up with a solid performance in her return from an injury layoff, powering La Salle to a 29-27, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Far Eastern University on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena.

The 21-year-old spiker, back after a major knee injury in the playoffs last season, registered 10 points, all on attacks, to help La Salle start its new campaign on a bright note.

“Sabi ko hindi ako contented pero first game of the season so medyo understandable pa,” said Galang.

“Sobrang happy syempre excited ako kasi magagawa ko na ulit 'yung dati mapapakita ko pa 'yung talent ko,” she added.

Mika Reyes scored 13 points and Carol Cerveza had 10 markers for La Salle, which took the win in one hour and 35 minutes.

The Lady Spikers joined back-to-back defending champion Ateneo, University of the Philippines and Adamson in the early lead.

Toni Rose Basas scored 13 points and Mary Palma added 12 for FEU, which joined National U, University of the East and University of Santo Tomas in the bottom half of the standings.

"Siguro ngayon mga nasa 85 percent sa kaya niyang gawin well ang target ay ma-surpass ang ginawa niya last season," said assistant coach Benson Bocboc, who was sent to the post-game conference by La Salle in place of head coach Ramil de Jesus.

"Kasi hindi siya maglalalro kung papantayan lang niya 'yung laro niya last year. Sa ngayon kulang pa may kailangan pa kaming i-adjust."
