MOTHERS know best. And they also bring out the best in their children, just like how Mary Meikle inspired her daughter Amy Ahomiro on Saturday in Ateneo’s rout of Adamson in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Ahomiro finished with 15 points, a point shy of Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez's output, in a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 victory over the Lady Falcons that enabled Ateneo to clinch twice-to-beat incentive in the Final Four.
Ahomiro admitted her mother's presence in the sidelines at the Mall of Asia arena, after coming all the way from New Zealand to watch her play, brought out the best in her.
And even though her mom already flew back home on Sunday, Ahomiro was determined to reward her mother's short visit with a memorable performance.
“I played well for her. She came a long way to watch me play so I played my best to make her proud,” said the New Zealander spiker.
“She lives in New Zealand. She comes minsan lang when she can, when she has time off,” added Ahomiro, whose mother also watched the opening match of Season 78 against National University.
Ahomiro admitted she hopes that her mother would come back this season, especially if Ateneo goes deep in the playoffs.
“Hopefully, she will be back in other games,” she said.
