ATENEO played consistently for a straight-sets win over a University of the East side that started flat and declined as the match wore on, 25-15, 25-13, 25-11, on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Their 11th victory against two losses put the Lady Eagles in the provisional lead and closer to the No. 1 seeding in the Final Four.

Ateneo plays La Salle (10-2) on Sunday. The Lady Spikers finish their elimination-round schedule next week against National University.

Alyssa Valdez led all scorers with 17 points, while sophomore Jhoana Maraguinot added 13 in the match that lasted only 69 minutes.

“Most of my teammates played well today so it was really a good game for us and hopefully the win we got today give us confidence for the next game,” said the 22-year-old Valdez.

UE absorbed its 58th consecutive defeat and is has only one chance left as it tries to avoid another winless season.

“After this game syempre we have to move on and on to the next,” said Valdez.

“Sa Sunday let’s see each other, so we have to go back and train again and look for the things we have to improve on,” she added.

Shaya Adorador scored seven points, while Roselle Baliton added six for the Lady Warriors.
