ALYSSA Valdez did not need a lengthy statement to express what her return to the national team means.
After three years away from international duty, the Philippine volleyball icon offered a brief but meaningful line as she prepares for her return to Alas Pilipinas Women, making it clear that representing the country still carries the same weight.
“I will never get tired of representing the country. Hopefully, makatulong po tayo in our own little way,” said Valdez.

Valdez's comeback, slated for the AVC Women’s Cup in Candon City from June 6 to 14, has been a long time coming for the Creamline star, who last suited up for the national team during its fourth-place finish at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in 2023.
Now, she finds herself returning to an Alas setup that looks much different from the one she last saw.
Still, Valdez admitted there are details regarding her return that are still being sorted out.
“Yung mga details and every other thing, pasensya na po, wala pa rin po ako masyadong alam. But definitely, once we all have the answers, we’ll all let you know and sana maintindihan niyo po.”
For someone who for so long has been the face of Philippine volleyball, the presence of younger players in the Alas Women pool has become her fuel to carry on at 32 years old.
“Napakasaya to be surrounded by young, talented girls. Hopefully, dumami pa rin. Sana magtulungan din tayo in supporting these girls dahil they deserve to be here.”
Instead of slowing down, that next generation appears to be giving her even more reason to continue.
“Sana maging inspirasyon po tayo, at ’yun lang muna po ang masasabi ko tungkol sa national team.”
