THE four-game winning run of University of Santo Tomas may have come to an end Wednesday at the hands of De La Salle, but the Tigresses have earned the respect of no less than the reigning MVP of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez said she was proud of the way the Espana-based school, especially rookie player EJ Laure, played against the powerhouse Lady Spikers despite losing in straight sets, 21-25, 9-25, 18-25.
“Maganda ang performance nila lalo na si EJ, proud ako sa kanya. And sa kanilang lahat maganda ang performance nila,” said Valdez, herself a product of the UST girls volleyball team in high school.
The loss by the Tigresses snapped a hot stretch for one of the most dominant teams in the league in previous years, but they remain in solo third place with a 5-6 (win-loss) card.
Laure, the former UAAP juniors MVP, finished with six points in the game against the Lady Spikers.
UST faces Ateneo on February 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena, a showdown Valdez is definitely looking forward.
“Looking forward kami (na makaharap sila) and ma-correct ang mga mistakes namin and ma-improve pa ang game namin,” said Valdez, who won three straight titles with UST in the juniors division.
