YOUNG EJ Laure got a big boost in confidence from no less than the league's MVP, a day before her debut as University of Santo Tomas captain in the UAAP women's volleyball tournament.
Ateneo Lady Eagles star Alyssa Valdez said she has no doubt that Laure is the best woman for the job.
“She’s really deserving (of the position), she’s really talented, she’s one of the nicest talaga,” Valdez said of Laure, who inherited the UST position after veteran Pam Lastimosa went down with a season-ending ACL injury.
The 22-year old Ateneo star said she has known Laure since her time with UST in high school. They also played together in the Philippine Under-23 squad.
No wonder Valdez is proud to see her ‘little sister’ take the lead for the Tigresses.
“Kahit ako sa UST pa kilala ko na siya, tapos nakasama ko siya sa Asian Under-23 so we’re really proud of EJ,” said Valdez, adding Laure's personality is perfect for the captain's position.
The Tigresses’ first assignment is Adamson set at 2:00 p.m. at the Philsports Arena and Valdez is confident Laure can come through with flying colors.
“Si EJ pa kayang-kaya niya ‘yan,” she said. “‘Yung personality ni EJ sobrang bagay talaga to be a captain.”
Ateneo and UST will face on February 7 but even if they’re on opposing sides, Valdez assured Laure of her support.
“Let’s support her, kahit naman anong mangyari we’re here to support her, ate pa rin niya ako,” she said.
