THE first ever showdown this season between rivals Ateneo and La Salle in the elimination of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament turned out to be a blockbuster as a total crowd of 18,489 turned up at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.
Volleyball fans filled the Pasay venue to get a glimpse of what this early is already being billed as a fourth straight possible title showdown between the league’s top two teams.
Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez readily thanked the fans for coming over and hopes more fans will be watching when the Lady Spikers and Lady Eagles face again in the second round.
“Yey!” exclaimed Valdez when told about the record crowd for an elimination round game.
