CREAMLINE moved a step closer to claiming third place in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Season as it handily beat the Power Smashers, 25-20, 25-18, 25-15, on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Days after being beaten in the semifinals by Bali Pure, Alyssa Valdez and the Cool Smashers vented their ire on the Power Smashers.
The former Ateneo star scattered 21 points to lead all scorers, 17 coming from attacks as her team drew first blood in the best-of-three battle for third.
Valdez was as prolific in the second set as she conspired with Kuttika Kaewpin to break away from a close 16-15 lead after the second technical timeout, ending that set with a 9-2 run.
“Ang key dito is inspired talaga ang imports namin to play since in a few days aalis na sila, they were really inspired,” said assistant coach Oliver Almadro.
“There was no pressure from the management. When we lost, hindi sila nagtanong kung bakit kami natalo. We just had to end the season on a win. Sana maging maganda ulit next game,” he added.
Kaewpin backstopped Valdez with 13 points while fellow guest player Laura Schaudt added 11. Pau Soriano also had her moments for the Cool Smashers as she soared high with three blocks and wound up with seven points.
Kannika Thipachot was the only Power Smasher who finished in double digits as she scored 14, all from attacks, while Dimdim Pacres had nine markers.
The second match of the series is on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the same venue.
