ATENEO is back on a roll, getting a win streak going anew with a 25-15, 25-10, 25-21 demolition of error-prone Far Eastern University on Sunday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles again moved provisionally top of the table with their eighth win in 10 outings, with second-running La Salle (7-2) to play its 10th match on Wednesday against third-running University of the Philippines.
The Lady Tamaraws are in fourth after their fifth loss in 10 starts, even with National University. The Lady Bulldogs earlier downed winless University of the East in straight sets.
Ateneo won six straight before suffering back-to-back losses but have now started a new streak, and have not dropped a set in the past two matches. They downed NU in their previous outing.
FEU, meanwhile, continued its shaky run, the Lady Tamaraws not having won two straight matches. They were coming off a win over UE.
Alyssa Valdez scored 20 points, sophomore Jhoana Maraguinot added 10 markers fpr Ateneo.
“We’re happy we got the win syempre sbi nga nila pagkukuha mo ‘yung win na sunud-sunod mas mahirap pa ang next na battle,” said Valdez.
“It’s really hard to say na nakabalik na lahat ang momentum kasi iba naman ang situation, iba naman ang nagyayari that’s why we have teammates and coaches to guide us and support us, we hope it works lang and sana maglaro kami as a team,” she added.
Third year setter Jia Morado registered all of Ateneo’s 37 excellent sets to go with three points.
Maraguinot had 13 digs and five excellent receptions, while libero Gizelle Tan made 13 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
“Jia is doing a good job distributing the ball,” said Valdez.
“We’re just really happy na lahat kami nagperform ng maayos but then there are a lot of things to improve on,” she added.
Toni Basas scored eight points for FEU.
