VOLLEYBALL star Alyssa Valdez may have it all – fame, adoring fans, championships.
One thing is missing though: A love life.
“Wala. Wala talaga,” was her curt reply to Spin.ph when asked about the matter.
The 22-year-old pride of San Juan, Batangas remained elusive when heart matters are being talked about, opting to make her love life a private affair.
Of late though, rumors have been linking her with fellow Atenean and basketball star Kiefer Ravena, to which Alyssa only gave out a smile.
Instead, the UAAP back-to-back MVP, who steered the Lady Eagles to a second straight championship last season, said her teammates, coaches, and family serve as inspiration for her to give her 100 percent every game.
“Lahat naman kasi kami nagbibigay ng sacrifices, lahat kami nagbibigay ng time. So when you play malalabas mo lang talaga ‘yung 100 percent mo,” she said.
With Valdez at her best, Ateneo won its first ever UAAP women’s volleyball title in 2014 by beating thrice-to-beat rival De La Salle. The following year, she led the team to a second straight championship behind a 16-0 season sweep.
Last December, Alyssa and the Lady Eagles bagged the bronze medal in the Asian University Games held in Palembang, Indonesia, before she skippered the Philippine team in the Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Likewise, Valdez and her PLDT Home Ultera squad defeated powerhouse Philippine Army in the title match of the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference.
Just last June, Alyssa was part of the Philippine team that represented the country in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, where she also served as flag bearer of the entire PH delegation.
The stint was the first ever for the women’s team in the biennial meet for the last 10 years.
“I really love the sport, ‘yung passion andoon talaga,” she said of volleyball, which serves as her one and only love today. “Nakikilala ko ‘yung sarili ko sa volleyball.”
