ALYSSA Valdez and Aby Marano banner the 37 players who attended Day One of the national pool tryouts organized by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) on Thursday afternoon at Arellano Gym in Taft.
National coach Shaq delos Santos, together with deputies Kungfu Reyes and Brian Esquivel, supervised the tryouts under a unique set-up where thet put the seniors and under-23 teams together under one roof.
Also present for the seniors squad were Mika Reyes, Jia Morado, Denden Lazaro, Risa Sato, Jema Galanza, Majoy Baron, Dawn Macandili, Kalei Mau, Ria Meneses, Jannine Navarro, Mylene Paat, Jerrili Malabanan, Celine Domingo, Kyla Atienza, Heather Guino-o, Me-Anne Mendrez, Judith Abil, and Kath Arado.
Eya Laure and Angel Canino, meanwhile, led the youth revolution together with Thea Malaluan, Tanya Narciso, Justine Jazareno, Imee Hernandez, Camille Victoria, Ma. Bernadette Pepito, Janna Elizabeth Torres, Lyanne De Guzman, Alexis Mines, and Buding Duremdes.
Kim Dy, Cha Cruz-Behag, Ces Molina, and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas also attended the session, though the four stayed in the bleachers and were in street clothes.
LVPI president Peter Cayco was present to observe the proceedings, which aims to deepen the national pool ahead of a number of big tournaments slated this year.
On tap for the seniors team are the 2019 Southeast Asian Games here in November as well as the 2019 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in Seoul, South Korea.
Meanwhile, the under-23 side is gearing up for the 2019 Asian Women's Under-23 Volleyball Championship in Hanoi, Vietnam.
