CREAMLINE will try to prove anew that they can manage to stay on top even without Alyssa Valdez as the Cool Smashers face lowly University of the Philippines in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Despite the absence of top hitter Valdez, who’s currently in Japan for the national team training camp, the Cool Smashers remain heavily favored in their 6:30 p.m. match.
Pau Soriano, Rosemarie Vargas and Coleen Bravo will be expected to lead the offense once more along with the playmaking of setter Jia Morado, who had 62 excellent sets in their game against the Power Smashers.
“It’s a learning day for us. At least pagbalik ni Alyssa, alam niya na everybody nag-improve,” said Creamline coach Oliver Almadro. “Nag-improve siya sa byahe niya, nag-improve din ang teammates niya dito.”
The Cool Smashers, who already secured a seat in the semifinals, are looking to extend their wining streak to six and cement their hold of the top spot.
Meanwhile, the Lady Maroons, who came from a 28-30, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25 beating from BanKo-Perlas on Wednesday, hope to pull an upset over the Cool Smashers.
Diana Carlos and Isa Molde will again take charge for UP, which currently hold a 1-4 win-loss card.
