THE organizing SportsCore presents today the foreign players to their respective teams and the media to formally usher in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix 2013 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
PSL president and SportsCore CEO Ramon 'Tats' Suzara and PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico will lead the presentation ceremony while league commissioner Ian Laurel will introduce the six teams seeing action in the women's division and the four squads competing in the inaugural men's club division.
"The PSL is ready for its second women's tournament and the inaugural men's club competition," Suzara said. "And in partnership with Solar Sports, we hope to bring intense volleyball action closer to the people, help ignite the Filipino's sporting passion and possibly give the sport another boost."
The PSL Grand Prix 2013 fires off on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan and tickets are now on sale at the SportsCore office, Unit 220, City Land Vito Cruz Tower 1, 720 Vito Cruz St., Manila. Interested parties may also call 353-3935.
For the opening games at 1 pm on Sunday, tickets will be sold at the booths of the San Juan Arena.
The event is backed by Asics, Mikasa, LGR and Jinling Sports.
Ticket sales will be donated to the victims of the recent earthquake in Bohol and will be turned over to San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez, who is leading the city's relief project.
Coaches of defending champion TMS-Army, PLDT, Cignal, Petron, Cagayan Army and new team RC Cola, which partly owns Air Asia-Zest and Zesto juice drinks, said they were impressed by the foreign players who have started to join practice sessions as soon as they arrived.
The foreign players have seen action in various leagues sanctioned by the FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) and the AVC (Asian Volleyball Confederation) and their collective experience is expected to raise the level of competition in the PSL's second tournament.
