ORGANIZERS of the Asian Men's Volleyball Club Championship are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations to ensure the success of the country's hosting of the first biggest international sporting event this year with tourism, security and display of top Filipino hospitality assured for all members of the 16 competing squads.
Local government units, the Philippine National Police and the sponsoring PLDT Home Fibr are in close coordination with the organizing Philippine Volleyball Federation and Sportscore as various activities have been lined up for the foreign and local officials and the participants.
A welcome dinner prepared by PLDT will officially usher in activities for the athletes and officials on Monday at the poolside of the City Club at Alphaland Makati Place at 7 pm. The tournament runs from April 8 to 16.
The Philippines is vying for honors against teams from seven-time champion Iran, Iraq, Mongolia, Japan, Lebanon, Vietnam, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Oman, Hong Kong, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Papua New Guinea, Chinese Taipei and China.
Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and Pasay City Mayor Antonino Calixto will join Philippine Sports Commission chairman Ricardo Garcia, former PSC chief and AMCC Organizing Committee chairman Philip Ella Juico, Philippine Superliga president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara and PVF president Karl Chan and Sec-Gen. Otie Camangian in welcoming the participants and members of the diplomatic community.
Other special guests are Chairman Hyungbin Yim of the Asian Volleyball Confederation and his entourage Tetsuya Ozaki (President, Senoh Equipment-Japan), Masahiro Masuoka, (International Maketing Manager, Senoh Equipment-Japan), among others.
Pasay Mayor Calixto has assured the safety of the participants at the MOA Arena and the Cuneta Astrodome, the two main venues of the tournament, while Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino has also assured hassle-free travel to all AMCC participants of the tournament supported by Mikasa, Gerflor-Spurway, Senoh Equipment, Healthway Medical Services and Maynilad.
All games of the Philippine Team, also known as the Power Pinoys or the PLDT HOME TVolution team, will be televised live on TV5, the official broadcast partner of the AMCC. The tournament also has Magic 89.9, Wave 89.1, Jam 88.3, Play 99.5 and KLite 103.5 as radio partners.
The main group for security operations will be led by Southern Police District Supt. Jose Erwin T. Villacorte and his deputy Sr. Supt. Bill B. Beltran.
Makati Chief of Police Supt. Manuel Lukban and his team will secure athletes and officials staying and training at hotels and gyms around the premier business district, while traffic support will be provided for by MAPSA officer Silver Abainza.
Pasay Chief of Police Sr. Supt. Florencio T. Ortilla will be in charge of security at the MOA Arena and Cuneta Astrodome.
Mandaluyong Chief of Police Supt. Tyrone V. Masigon and Manila Police Station 9 Chief Supt. Mannan C. Muarip are in charge of the practice venues in Mandaluyong and in Manila.
