THE Philippines failed to qualify for the 2026 AVC Volleyball Continental Championships, with neither national side earning a place in Asia’s elite tournament.
Both Alas Pilipinas' men's and women's teams did not crack the 12-team fields for the continental meets later this year, halting what could have been the country’s most significant international push of the cycle.

Currently ranked 80th in the world, the men’s squad fell short of the AVC’s qualification threshold, while the women’s team, ranked 46th, also missed out despite recent gains in regional competitions.
Selection was determined through a combination of FIVB world rankings and results from zonal events such as the SEA V.League and the Southeast Asian Games.

The absence carries heavier consequences beyond prestige as the AVC Volleyball Continental Championships serve as a direct gateway to the global stage, with the champion earning outright qualification to the 2028 Summer Olympics, while the top three finishers advance to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Championships.
The women’s tournament in August will be bannered by host China, joined by Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the men’s event in September will feature host Japan alongside Australia, Bahrain, China, India, Iran, Korea, New Zealand, Oman, Qatar, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand.
Redirecting the roadmap
With the AVC Championships now off the table, Alas Pilipinas turns its attention to other international platforms this year.

The program will instead channel its efforts toward the AVC Champions League in April (women) and May (men), the Women’s Cup in June at Candon City and the Men’s Cup in July.
Such competitions remain crucial for rebuilding momentum, improving rankings and sharpening the national teams for future qualification cycles.
