ALAS Pilipinas Women's path to the semifinals took a significant hit on Tuesday after a humbling 16-25, 18-25, 22-25 loss to South Korea in the 2026 AVC Women's Cup at the Candon City Arena.

The Nationals looked poised to force a fourth set with a 19-16 advantage in the third frame, only for the Koreans to unleash a crushing 9-3 run that extinguished the hosts' comeback hopes and sealed the match.

With a chance to strengthen its semis credentials, the Philippines instead found itself thoroughly outplayed by one of Asia's traditional powers, dropping to 2-2 in Pool A and slipping further behind the tournament's frontrunners.

The defeat could hardly have come at a worse time for the hosts as the Koreans improved to a spotless 3-0 (win-loss) card, joining fellow-unbeaten side Chinese-Taipei atop Pool A, leaving the hosts with a narrower margin for error as the tail-end of the group stage nears.

But beyond the middle, Korea largely took away the Philippines' wing attack as Alyssa Valdez was limited to seven points, while Alyssa Solomon, making her first start of the tournament after providing a spark off the bench in previous matches, was likewise held to just seven markers.

Ces Molina and Ara Galang added only four points apiece, with the latter scoring all four in her lone third-set stint, as the Korean defense repeatedly disrupted the Philippines' rhythm on the pins.
