JEMA Galanza and Cherry Nunag won’t be seeing action for Alas Pilipinas in Leg 1 of the 2024 Southeast Asian (SEA) V.League beginning tonight in Vietnam.
Alas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito confirmed the development to SPIN.ph hours before the nationals’ tournament opener against the host nation.
He made it clear, however, that their exclusions weren’t prompted by injuries or any other pressing concerns.
Galanza, Nunag join Andaya, Stires as reserves
Rather, it was only a matter of making a pair of player cuts from the 16-player Alas pool, given that the tournament only permits 14 players per team per leg.

“We have 16 players and we have to choose only 14 players. Nunag is (also excluded alongside Galanza) for the same reason,” said de Brito.
“Next week, we are going to have other two players off, and we are going to decide who they will be.”
As it stands, Angel Canino’s exit and Alyssa Solomon’s entry have been the only major changes to the Alas roster for Leg 1.
Of the original 14 nationals, only Canino is neither with the team nor the pool for the regional tourney.

Moreover, the Fil-American duo of setter Tia Andaya and libero Hannah Stires are already in the pool and could be in consideration for Alas’ Leg 2 roster, one which de Brito will decide on by the end of the first leg.
