STA. ROSA, Laguna — Ranran Abdilla and James Buytrago’s first win for Alas Pilipinas in the 2024 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships was also their last.

The Alas duo skipped its all-important pool play finale with Thailand’s Netitorn Muneekul and Wachirawit Muadpha, resulting in a 0-21, 0-21 loss by default.

Abdilla suffered from chest cramps during the four-hour gap between Alas' morning and afternoon matches.

The lingering pain reached his shoulders and the entirety of his chest area which prompted him to seek medical attention.

Doctors told Abdilla he won’t be able to play any further for the remainder of the day.
