ALAS Pilipinas Girls could not complete their comeback against Venezuela, falling 22-25, 15-25, 25-20, 22-25 on Sunday to slide into the battle for 15th in the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship in San Felipe, Chile.
The young Filipinas were forced to chase from the start after the Venezuelans claimed the first two sets, but responded with a spirited third-set stand to keep their upset bid alive.
Caera Celis and Xyz Rayco powered the attack with 29 combined points, giving the Philippines enough firepower to make their opponent sweat in the latter stages.
But Alas Girls could not deliver the finishing touches it needed, with Venezuela maintaining its composure down the stretch to close out the fourth set and shut the comeback down.
On to the next, Alas Girls
The loss means the Filipinas will now make their final appearance in the global tournament, with Czechia at the opposite end.
A victory would give the Philippines 15th place, while a loss would leave them 16th in the 24-team field.
Either result, however, will still mark the best finish by any Philippine team in an FIVB Worlds event, putting Alas Girls on the cusp of a historic conclusion to their breakthrough campaign.
