AIZA Maizo-Pontillas may have been the final cut in the selection of the Philippine women's volleyball team to the Southeast Asian Games, but that doesn't mean she won't go to Singapore altogether.
According to Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas, Inc. (LVPI) insiders, the Cagayan Valley spiker is likely to join the team in the Singapore showpiece either as a reserve or an assistant coach.
Maizo-Pontillas was offered the spot by LVPI, sources said, shortly after president Joey Romasanta announced the final lineup for the biennial event on Friday, with the veteran the final cut in what had been a 13-woman pool.
Maizo-Pontillas, sources said, appeared amenable to the set-up and is set to join the national team in practice on Friday afternoon at the Blue Eagle Gym inside the Ateneo campus.
LVPI sources said Maizo-Pontillas' name was submitted to Singapore organizers before the final cut was made and therefore has the proper accreditation to join the team as a reserve.
