MARCK Espejo has been called up for another stint as import overseas.
After winning a historic silver medal with the Philippine men’s national volleyball team in the 30th South East Asian Games, Espejo announced he will be taking his talent to Visakha Volleyball Club in the Thailand league.
He is set to fly in Thailand on Sunday and stay until April, although he expects to be home briefly for a Christmas break.
It will be the second overseas stint for Espejo, who was the former import of Oita Miyoshi, where Bryan Bagunas is playing right now, in Japan V. League last year.
After turning heads in Japan, the five-time UAAP MVP returned and steered Cignal to back-to-back titles in the Spikers’ Turf.
Prior to the gold medal game between the Philippines, Thai broadcast station SMM Volleyball announced that Espejo is set to team up with Brazilian Kaio Fabio Alves Rocha as Visakha’s campaign begins on January 19 next year in Bangkok.
“Before nung game, may pinasa saking article. Siguro Thailand na rin naglabas. Maglalaro ako sa isang Thai club, Visakha,” said Espejo, who unleashed 14 points in their three-set loss to Indonesia in the gold medal match on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.
As he heads to his second overseas stint, Espejo is bringing precious experience from this amazing silver medal finish.
He even joked that Thais might remember him for their huge semifinals upset this SEA Games.
“Siyempre sakin, ewan ko. Baka kung ano'ng tingin nila sakin kasi tinalo natin yung Thailand,” said Espejo sharing a laughter with his teammates and reporters. “Pero yun nga, aalis ako dito sa Philippines na may medal. Siyempre, proud ako sa sarili ko. Proud ako sa bawat isa na nakapag-podium finish.”
