ADAMSON University cruised to the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference after it disposed also ran College of St. Benilde, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17, but the sweet victory came with a bitter loss after losing top hitter Jema Galanza to a gruesome ankle injury on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
Ely Soyud led the way with 18 points, while Chiara Permentilla made 10 the Lady Falcons, who bagged their fourth straight win in Group A to clinch a spot in the semifinals, but they will play on without Galanza.
Galanza twisted her right ankle after a stepping on a teammate's foot after going for a block in the third set. The Lady Falcons were up 5-0 at that point, after winning the first two sets.
She was crying in pain and was rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center at Wilson St. in San Juan to attend to what appeared as a broken bone on her right foo.
Ranya Musa and Rachel Austero combined for 27 points for CSB, which dropped to 0-4.
