    FEU, Adamson clash in win-or-go-home encounter for remaining berth in stepladder round

    IT’S a win-or-go-home scenario for Adamson and Far Eastern University when the two schools clash Saturday in a crucial UAAP women’s volleyball game at The Arena in San Juan.

    The Lady Falcons and Lady Tams currently find themselves in a tight logjam at fourth place with University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines, with all four teams carrying identical record of 5-8.

    The loser of the 4 p.m. clash between FEU and Adamson will automatically be eliminated, while the winner keeping its hopes alive of clinching the two remaining berths in the stepladder semis.

    The Lady Tams remained in the hunt for a spot in the next round after downing UP, 25-19, 15-25, 25-19, 25-19, while Adamson came also did the same with a 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19, beating of National University.

    “Pag nakapasok kami dito (sa playoffs) mas mahirap pa ang papasukin namin (sa stepladder),” admitted FEU coach Shaq delos Santos. “Baka ‘yung butas ng karayom magsara na pero pipilitin pa rin naming pasukin.”

    Meanwhile, UST also hopes to stay alive for a berth in the next round as it seeks to snap a three-game losing slide by taking on University of the East in the first game at 2 p.m.

    After absorbing back-to-back losses to Ateneo and La Salle, UST further aggravated its situation after a stunning five-set defeat to UP on Valentine’s Day, 25-11, 20-25, 25-16, 18-25, 11-15.

    A win over UE is UST’s last gasp for a shot of making it to the next round.

    On Wednesday, Ateneo completed a 14-game sweep of the elimination to book an outright Finals berth after beating De La Salle, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 27-25.

    The loss left La Salle (12-2) and NU (7-6) to clinch the other two berths in the stepladder phase.
