ADAMSON gained a share of fourth spot to boost its bid for a semifinal berth, downing Final Four contender Far Eastern University, 25-15, 17-25, 25-17, 25-23, on Wednesday in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons and the Lady Tamaraws now have identical 6-6 win-loss records, both with two games left to play in the elimination round.
Bhebs Pineda poured in 20 points, including five back-to-back spikes in the end game, for the Lady Falcons, while Marleen Cortel Mayeth Zapanta contributed 12 and 10 each.
"Buhay na buhay pa," said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses of their semifinal chances. "Hawak pa namin ang chance na makapasok sa Final Four."
The Lady Falcons dug themselves out of a six-point deficit, 15-21, in the fourth set as Pineda led an 11-2 Adamson run to seal the victory.
"Kaya naman niya (Pineda)," said Meneses of his top offensive player. "Ang sabi ko lang sa kanya pag 'di ka magiging leader di mananalo ang team. Siya na kasi ang pinaka senior eh, pag nag produce siya sa
points at defense lamang kami sa panalo."
Bernadetter Pons came up with 16 markers for the Lady Tams, while Mary Palma bucked an injured knee to registered four block points.
