ADAMSON University downed University of Santo Tomas, 25-10, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16, on Saturday to grab solo third spot in the 75th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons avenged their first-round loss against the Tigresses, surviving the España-based spikers' late surge in the third set and finishing with four straight points in the fourth capped by a Marleen Cortel service ace to seal the victory.
"Pinaghandaan talaga namin ang game ngayon," said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses. "Nakabawi na din kami sa nakatalo sa amin sa first round."
The trio of Shiela Pineda, Mayeth Zapanta and Pau Soriano led the Lady Falcons to their seventh win in 10 games. Pineda came away with 16 points from 12 spikes, one block and three service aces, Zapanta finished with 16 markers from 11 attacks, three blocks and two service aces, while Soriano added 15 on 13 hits and two service aces.
"Nag-step up silang lahat, nagtulong-tulong sila, di sila umasa kay Pau," said Meneses.
Adamson came up with 13 blocks against five by UST.
Carmela Tunay produced 11 points from an all-around performance of seven spikes, two blocks and two service aces. UST dropped to fourth spot with a 6-5 win-loss card.
Meanwhile, Ateneo downed University of the Philippines 25-14, 25-8, 25-16.
Alyssa Valdez led the scoring for Ateneo with 21 points from 16 attacks and five blocks, while Dzi Gervacio came through with 16 markers from seven spikes, one block and a season-high eight service
aces. Ateneo improved to 8-3 at second spot.
The Lady Eagles won all the scoring departments, coming up with 11 blocks against two of UP and 14 service aces compared to one by the lady Maroons.
Jat Aliyah Ong made six points for UP, which now has 1-9 win-loss record.
