LIBERO Dawn Macandili is going to miss the national women’s volleyball team’s training camp in Japan to take care of requirements she needs to complete in her final term at La Salle.

The five-foot libero, named the second best libero of the AVC Asian Women’s Senior Volleyball Championship in Biñan last year, said she has to attend to her thesis defense as well as unfinished projects for her on the job training.

“Kasi last term ko na to sa undergrad studies. May mga subject ako na di ko maiwan kasi na-extend 'yung term dahil sa bagyo,” the graduating AB Psychology major said. May defense pa ako and may project pa ako sa OJT.”

The reigning UAAP Season 80 Finals MVP admitted that she thought about sacrificing her academics just to train in Japan - a key part of the buildup for the team's campaign in the Asian Games.

But then, kumuha ako ng advice from a lot of people and they told me na nandiyan lang naman 'yung national team,” she said.

“If I leave my academics, mage-extend pa ako ng isang term, so sayang 'yung time na magsasabay na naman sa akin ang academics and volleyball.

National coach Shaq Delos Santos said he understands the responsibilities of Macandili as a graduating student.

Macandili, the 2016 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference MVP and the league’s four-time Best Libero, vowed to be ready for the Asiad despite missing the training camp.

“Sabi ko naman na magpapakundisyon ako dito and sa Asian Games ako babawi,” she said. “Confident naman na makaka-adjust ako kasi nakasama ko na sila last year.”
