THE Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference winds up its single round elims Sunday at The Arena in San Juan with four teams disputing the final placing in their respective groups for the quarterfinal phase.
San Sebastian and La Salle-Dasmariñas, tied at 1-2 in Group A, tangle in the 2 p.m. opener with the winner finishing third and joining unbeaten defending back-to-back champion Ateneo along with the Nos. 1 and 3 teams in Group B, led by National U, in the next round.
Adamson and Perpetual Help, on the other hand, clash in the 4 p.m. main game with the Lady Falcons, toting a 2-1 card, out to clinch the No. 2 spot and avoid falling into what seems to be the tougher Group A in the quarters of the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s.
The Nos. 1 and 3 teams in both groups will make up Group A in the next round, while Group B will be composed of the Nos. 2 and 4 squads, according to the organizing Sports Vision.
If the No. 1 team wins over the No. 3 team in the elims, it will carry an automatic 1-0 slate in the quarters and the No. 3 squad a 0-1 mark, the same with the Nos. 2 and 4 teams.
Perpetual booted out University of San Carlos with a straight-set win last Tuesday to clinch the last Group B quarters slot with a 1-2 record.
But the reigning NCAA champions will have to work extra hard to topple the Lady Falcons and force a three-way tie at 2-2 with Adamson and the idle Arellano Lady Chiefs.
UST clinched the No. 2 spot in Group A by ousting Letran, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20, also last Tuesday for a 3-1 mark with the Tigresses heading the Group B cast in the quarters of the event backed by Mikasa and Accel.
