THE Safeguard Active 5150 Triathlon on October 6 will return to Subic Bay after plans to stage the endurance race in Angeles City, Pampanga, fell through.
In an official statement posted on the Triathlon 5150 website (www.5150philippines.com) Sunrise Events, Inc., the event organizer, said the change in race venue was due "to unresolved administrative matters between the owners and operators of the DECA Wakeboard Park and the local government unit of Angeles City, Pampanga."
“These matters were brought to our attention and though these may be addressed in due time by the parties, SEI chose to focus all its efforts in making the race safe and enjoyable to the participants,” the statement concluded.
The decision, made almost a month prior to the October race, brings the event back to the former US Navy base where 663 triathletes from eight countries took part in the Century Tuna 5150 Triathlon last June 23.
Organizers said “an all new Subic course map” of an international standard has been prepared for the Olympic-standard test of endurance which features a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-km bike ride and a 10-km run.
Online registration for participants is now open at the 5150 website.
