FORMER Ironman 70.3 champion Tim Reed looks to win his first 5150 crown in the Bellevue Resort Triathlon on Sunday in Panglao Island, Bohol.
Winner of the longer 70.3 distance (1.9km, 90k bike, 21k run) in Cebu the last three years, the 32-year-old Reed hopes to stamp his class in the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run event.
Sam Betten is eyeing a third straight crown, while also in the field are Alex Polizzi also of Australia and Rwanda’s Gabe Manner.
The 6-foot-4 Betten beat Henry Beck by almost nine minutes to complete a back-to-back last year and four straight 5150 races overall.
Dimity Lee Duke also gears up for another shot at the championship in the women’s side.
Winners in the Open championship will receive US$2,000 (around P100,000) each with the top male and female Elite finishers will pocket P30,000 each.
Also on tap are a short distance race series and a sub-category of The Bellevue 5i50 featuring a 750m swim, a 20k bike and a 5k run also for the second time in Bohol. The event is presented by the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines and backed the Province of Bohol and The Bellevue Resort, Municipality of Panglao, Municipality of Dauis, 2GO Express, Powerade, Wilkins Pure, Tyr, Bellevue Resort, Active Network, David’s Salon, Gu, Intercare and Pioneer.
