EXPECT some of the world’s toughest triathletes to vie for supremacy when Yellow Cab-Challenge Philippines Triathlon holds the Challenge CamSur on June 14.
David Voth, the chief executive officer of Leverage Sports Asia, who chairs the Challenge Philippines Race, said Challenge CamSur will be staged in the “fastest course and the hottest course” triathletes will encounter in their careers.
“We’re designing and redefining the CamSur course to be the fastest course and hottest course. It is going to be the fastest course in the Philippines and one of the fastest in Asia,” Voth announced during Tuesday’s press conference held at the 55 Events Place in Quezon City.
Voth said Challenge Philippines Triathlon is actually coming off a successful leg in Subic and Bataan this February, where Matt Burton reigned supreme in the male category, while Melissa Hauschildt topped the distaff side.
Over 700 athletes from 38 countries took part in the Subic, Bataan event with Australian triathlete Michael Murphy, who finished in the top 10 in the Subic leg, expected to make his return in CamSur.
Organizers are also hopeful that 2012 Long Distance World champion Chris 'Macca' McCormack could join the event.
“At CamSur, what’s also important is the camaraderie, the bonding, the Olympic village vibe they get while being there. And having a fast course, a course that delivers a PB (personal best), it offers Philippine triathletes and triathletes around the world a chance to experience the event in a meaningful way,” added Voth.
On the other hand, CamSur Gov. Miguel Luis Villafuerte, who was also in attendance, is confident that the Challenge triathlon event could further enhance the province’s reputation as the go-to sports adventure capital in the country.
“I believe our experience in hosting world-class events in the Philippines and with the expertise of the Challenge family headed by Dave Voth, we can grow this brand to be the fastest growing brand in the Philippines and the entire Asia,” said Villafuerte.
