    Matteo Guidicelli, Kim Atienza head celebrities seeing action in Ironman 70.3 Cebu

    Matteo Guidicelli, a former top karter and now triathlete, heads the move and TV stars vying for honors in the Ironman Cebu 70.3. 

    LOCAL movie and television personalities take time out from their busy schedules to test their skills on the sporting stage as they compete in the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines on Sunday in Cebu.

    Matteo Guidicelli, Paul Jake Castillo, Bubbles Paraiso, Dyan Castillejo and Kim Atienza will be vying in the individual competitions of the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run event.

    Piolo Pascual (bike), Gerald Anderson (bike), Jake Cuenca (bike), Gretchen Fulido (swim), Enchong Dee (swim) and Kim Chiu (run) likewise take a break from the numerous commitments to join in the relay event set to start and end at Shangrila-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.

    They will be among the more than 2,600 triathletes from a record 51 countries set to see action in the event bannered by top elite athletes Tim Reed and Dimity-Lee Duke.

    Sam Betten, winner of the recent Regent 5150 in Subic, is also seeing action in the event offering a top prize of $5,000 each in the men’s and women’s divisions, as well as Australia’s Tim Van Berkel, Mauricio Mendez of Mexico, Brent McMahon of Canada and New Zealand’s Cameron Brown.

    Also in the field are Braden Currie, Eddie Rawles and Callum Millward of New Zealand, David Mainwaring, Alexander Polizzi and Luke Bell of Australia, Americans Brad Williams and Iain Alexandridis, Czech Jakub Langhammer, Johan Stofberg of South Africa, Italian Jonathan Ciavatella and Eric Watson of Bahrain.

    Out to crowd Duke for the women’s tiara are compatriots Jacqueline Thisleton, Alise Selsmark, Kirra Seidel, Monica Juhart and Kerry Mulholland, Hungary’s Anna Eberhardt, New Zealand’s Amelia Watkinson and local bet Kim Kilgroe.

    Focus will also be on IronGirl on Aug. 4, a 5km fun run for girls 12 years old and above, and the IronKids on Aug. 5. There will also be competitions among Filipino elites, executive tri racers and close to 2,000 age-groupers and relay racers in the event backed by Cobra Energy Drink, Tourism Promotions Board Philippines, Summit Natural Drinking Water, Asics, Gatorade, Prudential Guarantee, Philippine Airlines, Globe, Oakley, TYR and Active Network, Mactan Resort & Spa, Lapu-Lapu City, Megaworld, Sun Life Financial, David’s Salon, Intercare, Alaska, GU, Timex, DeVant, Regent, Omega Pain Killer, Sanicare, AlcoPlus, Bionic Cebu, Daylong and media partners The Philippine Star, ABS-CBN Sports + Action, AsiaTRI.com and Finisher Pix.
