MARIAN Jade Capadocia tripped top-seeded Katharina Lehnert, 6-3 3-6 6-3, to capture women's singles title in the Philippine Columbian Open presented by Cebuana Lhuillier on Sunday at the PCA courts in Manila.
The third-seed Capadocia won her second consecutive PCA title at the expense of the fancied Fil-German, who had not dropped a set in her run to the finals.
Capadocia became the first back-to-back women’s singles winner of the event since Czarina Mae Arevalo pulled off the feat from 2001.
The 17-year-old Capadocia notched a finals appearance without dropping a set after downing Clarice Patrimonio, 6-3 6-4, in the semis on Saturday, but was thoroughly outplayed by Lehnert in the second set.
Lehnert, however, won the women’s doubles as she teamed up with Toby Miclat to beat the Capadocia sisters Marian Jade and Jella Jade, 6-3 6-1.
