TREAT Huey will go into the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group II tie against Kuwait this weekend with a lot of confidence following his win in the ATP World Tour doubles event in Acapulco.

The 30-year-old Fil-Am is coming off a big run in the Mexico tournament, winning the men’s doubles event with Max Mirnyi in the ATP 500 competition before coming over to Manila for the March 4-6 meet.

Huey hopes last week’s performance will translate into success come Saturday when he teams up with Francis Casey Alcantara to play against Mohammad Ghareeb and Abdulhamin Mubarak in the doubles contest set at 6 p.m.

“I think it gives me a lot of confidence going into the doubles on Saturday. I’ve been playing well for a month or two. I hope to continue to play well this week,” he said.

Jeson Patrombon kicks off the country’s campaign on Friday against Abdulrahman Alawadhi at 3 p.m., before Ruben Gonzales goes up against Ghareeb in the second singles.

Huey is upbeat he’ll be able to keep the momentum going on a year that he started with a quarterfinal placing in the Australian Open.

“It’s a good way to start the year. We hope to keep it going,” said Huey.

Although the Philippines won its two previous ties against Kuwait, Huey is not complacent especially with the visitors having Ghareeb, who nearly upset Roger Federer in a 2006 tournament in Dubai.

“It should be a good match-up. He played against Roger Federer. He is obviously good. Even though he is a little bit older now, he still has the ability. It should be a good doubles match for us,” he said.
