FILIPINO tennis aficionados will see World No. 1 Serena Williams play in the country again at the Manila leg of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL), which kicked off on Sunday.
But this time, the tennis superstar headlines the Philippine Mavericks, along with Filipino-American doubles specialist Treat Huey and Australian legend Mark Philippoussis, in the three-day tennis spectacle presented by PLDT HOME Fiber.
The local franchise plays against the UAE Royals at the Mall of Asia Arena at 7:30 tonight, after the Japan Warriors slug it out with the Singapore Slammers.
Williams arrived in Manila on Saturday afternoon, along with other tennis stars such as Ana Ivanovic, Carlos Moya, Marat Safin, and Leander Paes.
Nine-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal is set to play in Manila for the first time tomorrow. The King of Clay will lead the defending IPTL champs Indian Aces.
Manila is the second stop of the five-city international tennis spectacle. The IPTL’s second season opened in Kobe, Japan last December 2.
