CHINESE Taipei gained a 2-0 lead over the Philippines after sweeping the opening singles of their 2015 Asia/Oceania Davis Cup Group II second-round tie on Friday at the Kaohsiung Yangming Tennis Courts in Taiwan.
Hung Jui-chen beat Jeson Patrombon, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1, in the first singles game before world No. 61 Lu Yen-hsun downed Patrick John Tierro by the same score line.
The sweep moved the Taiwanese a win away from advancing to the Group II finals, with Lee Hsin-han and Peng Hsien-yin battling Ruben Gonzales and Treat Huey in the doubles match set on Saturday.
The winner of the tie will face Pakistan, winner over Indonesia in the other pairing.
