TENNIS players from across the country battle it out for honors and a chance to watch matches in the French Open live at Roland Garros in the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open.
The PPTO will have qualifiers in Cagayan de Oro, Nueva Ecija, Bacolod, Cebu and Manila before the national where the champions in the men’s and women’s singles, and the men’s and women’s doubles will get an all-expense paid trip to Paris to watch a match in the 2015 French Open.
The winners of the men’s and women’s singles also get P40,000 each, and the winning pairs in the doubles will each receive P22,000.
The Cagayan De Oro tournament is set October 12 to 18 followed by qualifiers in Nueva Ecija (November 2 to 8), Bacolod (November 23 to 29), Cebu (January 11 to 18) and Manila (February 1 and 7). The national finals is set February 15 to 21, 2016 at a venue still to be determined.
More than the prizes, Peugeot Philippines president Glen Dasig said the aim of the French car maker in holding the tournament is to discover new talents.
“We at Peugeot Philippines are looking forward to create Filipino tennis champions, planting the seed of excellence and establishing the roots in this country,” said Dasig in Wednesday’s press launch at the Valle Verde Country Club.
Peugeot has been associated with tennis being a sponsor of Roland Garros for three decades and has recently inked an endorsement deal with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
Dasig hopes that “in going to sports, we can spread to the world a taste of what Peugeot lifestyle is.”
