TEEN star Alexie Santos ruled the Bacolod regional leg of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open recently, bagging the women’s singles championship and teaming up with her mother Melinda to win the doubles title at the Center Court Tennis Club in Bacolod City.

The 15-year-old Alexie gave no ground in crushing Rosalie Clelo, 6-0, 6-0, for the women’s singles title. Alexie and Melinda won 7-5, 6-4 over Anabelle Zaragoza and Margie Escher to secure their place in the PPTO National Finals scheduled in February 2016.

It was the first time the mother-daughter tandem played doubles in a tournament.

“I was nervous at first, but after several plays, I felt confident and comfortable. Overall, it was really fun playing with my mom,” said Alexie.

“We learned a lot of things including teamwork and the experience strengthened our relationship as mother and daughter.”

Philippine Tennis Association men’s Singles No. 6 seed Vicente Elberto Anasta dominated the men’s singles championship match, 6-3, 6-1, over John Altiche.

In the men’s doubles, Cebu’s top player Janjie Soquino and Leyte’s top netter Amiel Aya-ay beat local favorites Mclean Barraquias and Karl Mark Gayo, 6-2, 6-0.

“We continue to be impressed with the skills and talent of Filipino tennis players as the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open holds its regional qualifying legs,” said Peugeot Philippines President Glen Dasig.

“We expect to see more exciting match-ups in the next stops of the PPTO in Nueva Ecija, Cebu and Manila.”
