AN error-prone Niño Alcantara still proved too much for Dineshkantan Thangarajah, rolling to a 6-2, 6-3 victory in their reverse singles match as the Philippines swept Sri Lanka in their Davis Cup Group Two tie on Sunday at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig.

The Filipino netter admitted he committed a handful of unforced errors, which hardly mattered as he notched the straight-sets win, the fifth straight for the Cebuana Lhuillier-squad.

“Ang dami ko ring double faults tska dropped shots, but overall, happy ako sa game ko,” the 23-year-old Alcantara told

Playing mostly doubles these days, the Pepperdine University standout didn’t disappoint after being chosen to suit up for the final singles match of the tie instead of Ruben Gonzales as he jumped to an early lead.

Thangarajah, though, threatened to force a deciding set in the no-bearing match as he established a 3-2 cushion in the second set, before Alcantara won the next four games to prevail.
