AJ Lim powers UE Red Warriors to first-round sweep in UAAP tennis
Philippine Davis Cup team member AJ Lim is unbeaten in five singles matches in the UAAP. 

ROOKIE sensation AJ Lim powered University of the East to a first-round sweep in the UAAP Season 79 tennis tournament.

The Red Warriors, eyeing their their first-ever UAAP crown, defeated defending champion National University, 4-1, and bested De La Salle, 3-1, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.      

Lim teamed up with Josshua Kinaadman in helping UE going undefeated in five ties.     

The 17-year old Lim, who played for the Philippines' Davis Cup team earlier this month, is also unbeaten in five singles matches.

University of Sto. Tomas edged La Salle, 3-2, but was beaten by Ateneo, 3-2.

The Growling Tigers and the Bulldogs are tied for second place at 2-2.

UST will battle University of the Philippines and NU takes on La Salle on Wednesday.

The reigning women's titlist Lady Bulldogs also went unbeaten in the first round with 4-1 victories over the Lady Maroons and the Lady Archers.

NU has won all four ties, thanks to the brillant performances of former MVP winners Clarice and Christine Patrimonio.

UST beat Ateneo, 3-2, to take second spot with a 3-1 slate, while UP capped the first round with an even 2-2 card.
