ALEX Eala made an early exit from the qualifiers of the 2023 Australian Open, losing to Japan's Misako Doi, WTA no. 172, 6-4, 6-7, 3-6, in the first round on Monday.
The 31-year-old Doi took the win over Eala, 17, in two hours and 37 minutes.

The Filipina, WTA No. 215, could not sustain the solid start, getting beaten in a second-set tiebreak and falling behind huge early in the third.
Eala made the cut to the qualifying list last December.
Eala three years ago won her maiden Juniors Grand Slam title in the 2020 Australian Open Girls Doubles with Priska Nugroho.
