Leander Lazaro ends college career with flourish as NU tops UAAP tennis for the fourth straight time

LEANDER Lazaro finished his college stint with a flourish, scoring a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Angelo Esguerra as National University swept University of the Philippines to win the UAAP tennis title for the fourth straight season.

Lazaro claimed Most Valuable Player honors as NU won the three matches, with Fritz Verdad beating Josh Cano, 6-2, 6-3, in the second singles before Al Michael Madrio and Jigo Pena beat Kyle Joseph and Joshua Miranda, 7-5, 6-1, in the doubles.

The Bulldogs won their 44th consecutive tie.

NU has swept the men’s and women’s competition under head coach Karl Santamaria for the third straight time.

The Lady Bulldogs swept University of Santo Tomas in the women’s division with Christine Patrimonio taking MVP honors.
